The M11 drops south past Bishop's Stortford to the airport junction, and the A120 finishes at the terminal.
The A14 is the long middle of the journey, a working dual carriageway full of port traffic, and the pick-up is set for its ordinary slow morning rather than its best one. On a run of 146 miles, that assumption, made at booking, is worth more than any shortcut.
